research on disabled

Physical therapy is a health care profession which provides services to individuals and populations to develop maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout life. This includes providing services in circumstances where movement and function are
threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors.

INFORMATION ABOUT CHILDREN WITH LOST OF LIMBS.
Children with congenital limb deficiencies (born without one or more limbs) feel different from their peers. They may feel sad and often grieve not having four “normal” limbs. Children must make a lot of physical (body) and emotional (feelings) adjustments to major body changes like these..
Children often blame their parents
Children with limb loss often have battles with their parents about prosthetic use and activities. Parents try to protect their children from failure, teasing, and other struggles.

About younger children
Often, many young children does not want to wear prostheses. Children often make this choice because prostheses may hurt or not feel comfortable. Many children also want to feel skin sensations and do not like how prostheses keep them from doing so.

About teenagers
Limb loss can make this time harder because teenagers do not want to be different from their friends. They may try to hide their limb loss. For instance, teenagers with lower-limb loss may not want to swim or do other activities that expose their legs. It is harder for teenagers to hide upper-limb loss because hands are so easy to see. Teenagers are less apt to hide limb loss once they feel liked by friends.

ACTIVITIES THEY DO

Children without limbs can also do many activities other than being in the house all day long. For examples, they can go to a gym and exercise their muscles and body. By doing so, they will increase their strength, flexibility, and muscle-tone, aid mobility and self-esteem, help control weight and aid digestion
They can also join Disabled Clubs, They are clubs specially formed to meet the needs of the disabled. These Club aims to help people that are physically disabled to regain their confidence and make their lives meaningful. Some activities commonly organised by these club are, fishing, jogging and swimming. Other than these, the children without limbs can still play games such as hop-scotch and dancing. These are great ways to relieve their stress and make them happier.

Equipments they used.
Usually, children without limbs have”artificial;” legs or prosthetics legs. The type of artificial limb used is determined largely by the extent of an amputation or loss and location of the missing extremity. These artificial limbs allow the children to be normal and they can feel like themselves. Thus, they will be more mobile than before.

INFORMATION ON WHEELCHAIR BOUND PATIENTS/ CHILDREN.

Pediatric Wheelchairs
Pediatric wheelchairs are mobile aids designed for and used by children. Children require the use of a wheelchair for different reasons - some have suffered head injuries, some have muscular dystrophy or cerebral palsy, some are amputees, who are not candidates for artificial limbs, and others make limited use of their wheelchairs in lieu of a walker or crutches.

Wheel chair bound patients usually thinks that they are outcasts of the society, and they are not mobile, hence they normally refuses to interact with other people. They are often trapped in their own world and these cause them to become very stressed up.

playgrounds in the neighbourhood

Here are some of the playgrounds in Tampines:)

Sorry about the picture resolution but as you can see,the sand acts as a nautral cushion if any accident were to happen. The rock climbing wall is also made in the same colour as the sand, making it look more natural to its surroundings. As kids are naturally attracted to thing with bright colours, colours like yellow and purple are used. The location of the playground is also important for the effect of the theme of the playground. As you can see, the setting of the playground is quite gloomy in the morning, creating a mysterious effect. the arcs are also built built near the slides or stairs which makes the playground look very much like a treehouse. Mini bridges are also commonly used to make the whole playground look bigger and tempting for children to play in!

Although this is partly anexercise caorner as well, the first impression about the playground was that its roof makes the whole playground resemble like a castle. The roller(the thing in red with yellow handles) in which the child would have to run very fast to keep his balance is not common in other playgrounds which attracts kids to came and play. It was one of my favourite item too.

This is my personal favourite as the colour contrast is very eye-catching. With the fake tress and round canopy, the theme of this playgound is clearly like an island. The slides are the most attractive about this playgound and the synthetic trees are probably the main highlight about this playground. The common thing about most of the playgrounds I have seen is that the flooring of the playground is either rubber or sand which are probably made due to safety reasons.

Playgrounds in Tampines

This is a fitness centre. It has a blue rubbery ground that protects people from getting themself injured, when they fall down. The colour of the equipments are almost all the same(blue and yellow) and this is good for the eyes. There are also monkey bars, balancing stuffs and pull up bars to train young children to be strong and fit. This playground is very colourful, and it thus attracts many children to play(as you can see from the picture)There is a rubbery ground that prevents slipping when the groung is wet. Also it prevents children from hurting themself when they fall down. The gradient of the slide is very steep at the top but is less steep when coming to the end. This way, the child will atomatic slow down when reaching the end. There are also many barriers/ arcs at the sides to prevent kids from dropping down. There is also a shade that acts like a small 'house' to keep the children cool when there is a hot weather.
This playground has many barriers that prevent the children from falling down. There are also steps with railings by the sides for the child to hold on.

This play ground might look similar to the one on top, but don't get mistaken! They are not the same. There is a curvey slide that is not very steep nor high, thus is suitable for young children to play. There are also some games like tic tac toe for children to play. The ground is very soft as it is covered by a rubbery material that prevents children from falling.

This play ground might look similar to the one on top, but don't get mistaken! In the far right, there is a red slide . It has a gentle gradient hence is suitable to be played by babies. There are also 2 ladders that children are able to climb. The height of the ladder is not very high so it is not dangerous. The ground is also very soft as it is covered by a rubbery material that prevents children from falling.

This playground was just built last year. it looks very new and has many facilities. There is games like see saw and a spider web for children to climb on. The colour is also very contrasting, and thus attracting children.

Like what i have mention before, there is a spider web that lets children climb. There are also some spiral like bars that allows children to spin themself when they stand on there. The ground is also very soft as it is covered by a rubbery material that prevents children from falling.

there is a mini rock climbing equipment that lets even children to climb on it. There is a tic tac toe game that lets children to play with. There is also a slide. It is rather special as it does not have a base. Instead, You are suppose to lie your butt on one of the poles and slight down.

These are the pictures i have taken on the playgrounds in Tampines.

Playgrounds in Tampines

Ever though I live in Pasir Ris, I went to look at the playgrounds in Tampines. These are the playground

-Notice the texture of the floor. If someone fall from the slide, mostly babies, the floor is not rough and thus do not hurt the baby. This shows that the playground is safe to play in.
-Also notice the the colours used in the two pictures, they used bright colours to attarct children. The colours used are mostly primary colours. When primary colours are mixed, it gives a range of colours and thus stands out. Colours play a important role as it tells the mood. Therefore, to me, I would want to play these playground.

-I can see that this playground is made out of different parts, just like a catapillar. Using differents part and later on combining them together will make it oustanding.
-For this playground, they too use primary colours. I could see that there is a mini rock climbing used as an entrance into the playground. I think it is rather dangerous as children might fall as the surface is smooth. For me, I may not want to play this playground as it is kind of plain as it used mostly only red and blue.

-Here is an interesting playground. It is bright coloured and a purple slide is seen. Purple is seldom used for the colour of a slide. Outstanding colours like red and yellow are used. But, to me, I think that this playground is not that suitable for young children as monkey bars can be seen and if they fall, the outcome will be very bad. So to conclude, I think that this playground is nice but young children should not play in these playground. If they really want to, parents should look after them.

-My first impression of these playground is that it looks just like a treehouse, with roof tops and ladders. A secondary colour green is mostly used in this playground. Mini games such as Tic-Tac-Toe could be seen and this could attarct even more children. Even the floor is brightly coloured. So, I would want to play in this playground if I have the chance.

'FUN' playgroundzzz

These are some playgrounds in my neighbourhood:-

This playground has a spongy floor and it prevents the childrens who are playing to get hurt. The light brown slides is not steep which allows children t play safely without the risk of having any injuries. The colours of the playground is bright which attracts children's attention such as the red slide. the red slide is a little steep but it is twisting down and the slide, due to the twist, urge children to play on it. There are one than one slide thus allowing kids to play on it without hav to wait for their turn.

The colours on this playground is quite bright but due to the location in which this playground is placed is unsuitable as the trees nearby may shelerthe light that is shining on the playground, this would cause children to worry as the place look quite gloomy and scary. The floor also is soft to cushion the falls of the children playing.

This playgroundmay looks the same as the top one but it is not, do not be mistaken. The red slide of this playground is quite steep and may cause children to fall off the slide but there is the spongy ground to cushion the fall. Kids may be attract to the playground due to its bright colours and enjoyable facilities such as monkey bars.

Facilitiesof this playground is quite unique as there is a place where children can stand or walk from one pod to another(right side of the picture). There is also a tunnel located at the centre of the playground which allows children to crawl through instead of moving in normal ways such as walking. There are more than one slide which are enough for the children to enjoy.

The green colour tunnel has a dull colour and not many children would want to play in this playground but there is a twisting slide and a corner where kids could play a game of match the animals. There is also a section of the playground where children could climb upwards to the second level. To go up to the second level, there is also a spring shape ladder which a holding bar as shown in the bottom picture.

This is the same playground as the top picture but in bird's eye view, actually almost in bird's eye view.

The slides of this playground is very bright and they are also wavy when flowing downwards. The floor of this playground is very soft and spongy which allows children to enjoy playing at this playground with much safety. There is a roof design, at the left side of the picture, which add to the cosy house effect.

playgrounds in Tampines

this playground uses bright colours and also the texture of the ground is spongey and thus if any one falls they would not get hurt.
this is a bigger view of the playground. as you can see, this playground actually has a unique design as the equipment are all actually one row and this actually minimize the space for more equipment to be installed in the future.
this is the side view of the rock wall beside the stairs. this allows more friction and allows the kids to climb better as they have more friction and will not fall down or slip easily.
this shows the slide of the playground and also the slides have a very gentle gradient and the children will not injure themselves easily.

this shows the part of the playground where children are able to climb the rope and the ropes are everywhere so that if a child falls, it can hold on to the child or the child can cling on to one of the ropes and the ground has a rubberized ground which can minimize the injuries inflicted on the child if he/she falls.
this shows a picture of an area which has ropes to support the child if he or she wants to climb the rope to sit in the 'chair'. this roping allows the child to have enough grip. behind this area, there is an area which is cordoned off. this said that due to a faulty facility, that area is closed. I feel that this service is good as it prevents any injuries to be inflicted to any child
this image shows that the rope is thick and also safe for the child to climb the rope. this picture illustrates clearly that the rope is rough and has enough friction to prevent the child from slipping the rope.

this image shows a playground that is not so high and also it has sufficient handrails or railings to help the child to grip so that he/she will not fall down.
this playground shows a parent with a child. this goes to show that this parent trusts the facility of the playground and allows the child to play the playground.

This are the pictures of playgrounds in Tampines.
